North Carolina Baptist Aging Ministry (NCBAM) was established in 2009 as a ministry of Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina (BCH). Milton Hollifield, then executive director/treasurer of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (BSCNC), asked BCH President/CEO, Dr. Michael C. Blackwell, to found and administer a ministry for senior adults. Blackwell tapped Dr. Sandy Gregory to serve as director for the new ministry. Gregory spent the first year traveling the state with Bobby Boyd, then president of BCH Board of Trustees, exploring what Baptists could do to help older adults. From their research, the mission of NCBAM was born:
To provide “help for the journey” to individuals 65+ in ways that help them maintain independence and enjoy quality of life.”
